Studio

 www.whitewhalestudios.com

Being juried in and joining a great studio group was the highlight of 2012.  After years and years of using pretty much every room and most walls in the house as work space to create art, I've moved into a gloriously high-ceilinged room in an old house in Greenville: White Whale Studios, near the Pendleton Arts District.Oh, yes, and a window wall gives plenty natural light. The dominant sound is from apparently happy birds who chitter and call almost incessantly on the big lawn. Quite a pleasant addition to the scratching of my pencils . . . And no telemarketing phone calls to interrupt my work! Seems like a whole new world --

This first blogpost is an experiment; we'll see whether I imagine there's enough activity of some possible interest to report, and time to report it, with any frequency. I must say my haphazard approach to keeping my website updated stems from my haphazard approach to computer use. Seems to me computers need to be there for my use convenience --but what other use would be more significant than getting & keeping in touch with people who're interested in my work? And what could be a more convenient way to do that than by computer?

Ah, yes, she begins to get the picture . . .

The fact remains there are still not enough hours in anybody's day to do all that needs doing. An artist these days must handle all aspects of her business - even hiring helpers requires oversight and giving instructions. But it's wonderful that artmaking isn't a factory process; robots drawing all day? That would sure defeat the whole concept of art, wouldn't it? - No, that wouldn't do at all. So time must be shaped to accommodate creating, and marketing.  Not to mention carving out a few minutes daily in gratitude for even the opportunity to be overwhelmed by something I want to do. Remembering that is important.  (Being grateful for the excellent framer and superb photographer who make my life easier is also very appropriate . . .)

OK. Hi there, new reader, and welcome aboard. I leave you now, to return to figuring out how to update another aspect of this website, and sure hope what you see as you prowl my site will bring you pleasure.  Do feel free to let me know, either way - and thanks for stopping by! Kate
